Not all foaling's has a smooth result. Not all issues are apparent immediately. One mare has developed complications two weeks post foaling.
One of my girls developed colic symptoms, two weeks post foaling. This is a concern. I have lost my own mare about this time post foaling, and was left with an orphan. This mare needs help and we are lucky to have great support. Initially things did not look good for her and it was possible we may need to look for a foster mare.
Then something wonderful occurred during my watch...she seemed to improve after her latest vet visit.
Was this a false improvement? Was it just the pain relief? Do we need to prepare for the worst?
No. She was beginning to mend. Sure she's not out of the wood, but my goodness, things are looking promising.
Everyone is smiling and more optimistic in her recovery.
And to add to the good news, I foaled down two more babies and another was born while I was sleeping. All the boys and girls are doing the normal foal things, mums are going just fine too.
Just the way we like it.
